A Slice is Worth a Thousand Words

"Renaldo!" Thought Isabelle, as she carried the rich morsel of multigrain bread to her lips again. Her eyes searched the distance beyond the cool kitchen pane as the moistened bite slipped down her gullet, carrying her back on a wave of memory to a childhood in the Basque country with her deposed inamorato. Sweet Prince Renaldo, heir-to-be and she, daughter of a goat herder but his chosen paramour, once baked loaves such as this in the caves amongst the hidden foothills of the illustrious Pyrenees. Loaves as dense, as nutty, as savory. They left crumbs on her lips as this one did, and together with Renaldo they soothed her fierce hunger. Isabelle bagged the rest of the bread as a tear fell from her cheek. She would not go to the gym today.

Rebirth of Chicken and Egg

The long awaited resurrection of eating photos has arrived!

To commemorate this event, here is a closeup shot of chicken fried rice consumption, the eater's eyes downcast in ecstasy. The fleeting intimacy between the Eater and his Food is captured through macro, revealing every lash, mole, and grain. A hint of a smile adds to the illicit rapture of the moment. Note: before this photograph was taken, the subject had also consumed fried dumplings and two slices of pizza. He also offered the information that for the past month all he had eaten was carry-out.

The Bite

In the past months a wide variety of foods eaten in an unflattering light have been represented on eatingphotos. There's been ice cream. There's been Thai. There's been hamburger. But today, finally, an unflattering picture of someone enjoying a pizza (green peppers and onions?). And what a doozy of an unflattering picture it is.

The Open Box

The powerful rigidity of the hand at odds with the coyness of the glance. The closed blinds indicative of loneliness and isolation, the opened box expressive of invitation and welcome. Corn on one side, rice on the other. Crispix: A cereal filled with conflict. After this photo was taken, the subject described the Crispix as having been "really stale."

Bird in the Hand

The elusive wing-eater with classic flavor hot wing (drumstick) detail. These photos taken at Wing Night at Mother Bear's. The other basket of ten is Thai flavor. The beverages appear to be Mr. Pibb and water. The eater with his hidden face represents the everyman sucking savory meat from the pith of life. The inevitable, however, awaits: the stale tang of congealed grease, the pile of bones picked clean, the night, the gulls, the pull and lull at the ocean's end.
